Guidance Counselor
As children grow and mature from kindergartners to graduating seniors, we are committed to their success in the classroom, on the field, in the arts, and in their personal lives. Our ultimate goal as educators and advisors is to see students reach their fullest potential at Morgan so they will experience future success in college and beyond.
Morgan’s Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Sheryl Schroeder, holds her Masters in Counseling and has served in this capacity since 2002. She has a servant’s heart and is guided by her Christian principles when assisting students and parents. Her role as the Guidance Counselor has three main functions: college advising, student record keeping, and general counseling for all students.
COLLEGE ADVISING PROCESS
The college advising process starts early on at Morgan. We use forward planning in understanding the individual student’s academic level and personal interests to find the college that best suits. Parents are an important part of this process as well.
Beginning in 9th grade, students are encouraged to begin researching all colleges. The guidance counselor also meets with students and parents about beginning the process of finding the right college fit.
In 10th grade, preparation begins for taking the ACT. An ACT prep class and creative writing class are offered. They also will take the ACT for the first time this year.
The 11th grade is known as the “year of the ACT.” It may be taken as many times as the student chooses. The PSAT is also taken in October, which is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship. Also, each student and a parent has an intensive meeting with Mrs. Schroeder to overview the college application process and scholarship opportunities.
In 12th grade, students are completing the college and scholarship application process.
